a poet, hero or heroes, Irish, Early Irish clíar, society, train, clergy; from Latin clérus, as in cléir, q.v. Hence cliaranach, a bard, swordsman. The <Cliar Sheanachain>, (Senchan's Lot) was the mythic bardic company, especially on its rounds (Gaelic Folk Tales). Hence cliarachd, singing, feats.
